Resource recovery and waste
UNSW implements a range of waste and recycling services. All in all, we manage materials in over 10 different streams for reuse, recycling and disposal.
These streams all dovetail into our Towards Zero Waste program, aimed at dramatically reducing waste at the University.
The efforts of the UNSW Environment Unit have positioned UNSW as the benchmark in the tertiary education sector, and a leader in Australia for resource recovery and waste minimisation.
In February 2007, UNSW surpassed the NSW Government 2014 waste reduction/resource recovery targets. We have done so in a manner that targets resources towards environmentally preferred strategies of avoidance, reuse, and on-site reprocessing.
