Green Laboratory

This UNSW corporate due diligence program works directly with Faculties and Schools to ensure relevant staff are informed of their legal responsibilities with regards to compliance with environmental law and regulations.

Faculties, Schools, and relevant staff remain directly accountable for legal compliance. The role of the Green Lab Program is to provide support and information to assist the achievement of compliance with environmental law and regulations.

The Green Laboratory program:

• Has established a proven "Environmental Compliance Induction Training" that enables UNSW Faculties and Schools to provide mandatory training for laboratory managers, staff, and researchers. Note that this training directly complements relevant UNSW OHS induction training programs.
• Works directly with Faculties and Schools to conduct "Environmental Compliance and Management Audit Program", targeting areas of priority to identify non-conformances, and to develop staged environment improvement programs that support UNSW Faculties and Schools to achieve environmental compliance and continual improvement in environmental performance.

The initial focus of the Green Lab Program for 2009 is extending implementation of the induction training program to all relevant faculties using the resources and procedures that have been successfully implemented and refined in the Faculty of Science and Engineering via the standard UNSW web based system for teaching and learning activities (My eLearning Vista).

Green Lab: Environmental Compliance Induction Training

The induction training is only targeted at staffs that manage, supervise and/or work in laboratories, and post graduate students who work unsupervised in laboratories. The program is not targeted at undergraduate students who work in labs only under supervision of relevant staff.
