Electricity Management
UNSW aspires to conserve energy aggressively, progressively rely on renewable energy and reduce net greenhouse gas emissions to zero.
Our electricity management objectives are:
- reduce greenhouse gas emissions resulting from electricity and natural gas consumption per EFTSU by 2% per annum through design, demand management and improved efficiencies
- remotely monitor and manage at least 60% of the University's total electricity and natural gas loads by 2010
- by 2010, meet 7.5% of the University's electrical maximum demand from renewable sources and ensure a further 40% of energy requirements are generated with equipment supplied by natural gas
- continually improve the reliability and efficiency of the energy-related infrastructure without exceeding the 2005 Kensington Campus electrical capacity
- obtain sufficient annual funding to meet the cost of energy supply and to achieve the energy objectives of the UNSW Environmental Management Plan
- ensure that all new energy-related equipment and fixtures are 4-star rated, minimum.
