Energy Management

The main functions of this unit are to;

  • Purchase electricity and gas at the most competitive rates

  • Maximize the efficiency of energy and water consumption on campus

  • Prepare consumption and costs reports

 To complete these roles, the Energy Management unit;

  • Tenders for the supply of electricity & gas on a regular basis

  • Verifies the accuracy of all utility accounts

  • Assists with building energy design and specifications

  • Monitors the consumption of electricity, gas and water with over 400 university-owned meters on campus.

  • Assists with the development of energy and water policies

  • Initiates energy-related culture change activities (e.g. unswitch, Spot it & Stop it)

  • Initiates and funds energy efficiency projects through Spotless Services or other agencies. For example, Quad Photovoltaic system, Electric Motor Efficiency Program and Water-free urinal trials.

  • Maintains a website for information, data input and report generation.

  • Produces utility consumption and cost reports for cost recovery from commercial and other tenants on campus.

  • Manages energy and water audits

  • Provides energy-related advice to FM Engineering and other units
